23 things: week 6, thing 13 & 14 (tagging)
Week 6: Tagging, Folksonomies & Technorati
13. Learn about tagging and discover a Del.icio.us (a social bookmaking site)
I’m a huge collector of resources. My bookmarks and favorites lists are overflowing. In grad school, while creating my own webpage (again), I wanted to be able to share my findings and treasures with the world but I didn’t know how to do it in a way that was easily update-able. Del.icio.us is the way. Not only the way to update your links lists as soon as you’ve found something, but also to create communities around different tags, findings, etc. You can see what other people have found, what they call the thing you found, etc!
My favorite thing for “discovery” within del.icio.us is the network. I can see who’s linking to me, and me to them. It’s a great way to build communities around folks and topics. Along those lines, there’s a really cool mashup for del.icio.us that allows you to visually see how you are connected to people, and people to others, etc. It’s tres cool.
14. Explore Technorati and learn how tags work with blog posts.
