Cynthia, I always love your comments. I love the "books and beers" idea! Ever pitch that to the libs at which you currently work?

I was poking around CafePress today and saw a design that fits the new image of libraries: "we have books, too"

Ever since Elvis was on Ed Sullivan teens have been predicted to destroy the world, one institution at a time. I guess the conventional wisdom is that they are currently plotting against libraries. However, I do believe that 'they' forgot to tell the teens--my two part-time jobs in really different libraries are packed with teens.

The group that we do seem to loose is young adults--not the kind that library school labels YA, I mean real young adults 18-25 (ok 18-when you have a kid of your own). These are the folks we need to re-connect with. I think you are correct that they don't know what the library has become--a place with DVDs, Music, Computers, and yes books. If I am ever given the chance to program, I really want to a books and beers singles event at the local brew pub. I also want to invite more local music into the library on Friday and Saturday nights after hours.

(I owe you an off-line e-mail and will send it as soon as I finish my last paper before graduation...).
