Interestingly, I just got back from Portland, Oregon and much of what you wrote (minus the free healthcare) applies to my experience in that fair city. Nice people, friendly service, great food, amazing public transportation. But if you want good pizza by the slice... well, you gotta be in the tri-state area for that!
