I've been looking for good pizza by the slice since I moved to Maryland! Acceptable to pretty decent can be found at Gianni's in Severn. Otherwise, it's just sad. These people love their Papa John's.

Sounds like you had a wonderful trip, thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts and perceptions--makes me want to go! Interestingly, I just got back from Portland, Oregon and much of what you wrote (minus the free healthcare) applies to my experience in that fair city. Nice people, friendly service, great food, amazing public transportation. But if you want good pizza by the slice... well, you gotta be in the tri-state area for that!

What a nice piece.

After almost a year of living between Ireland and the UK, I've just this week finally moved to London for good. Seeing my new home through a visitor's eyes makes me that bit more appreciative of what we have.

Thanks!

Good post~you make me want to visit. Again. Or maybe pack up my cat and find a nice cushy library job there. I also giggled at the archivist=anarchist comment. :-)

On a more serious note, I thought the piece about American being in it's teenage years was very well said.
