about the strange librarian (the person)
Hi there! I’m Julie, nice to meet you. I’m a Jersey girl (not that kind) living and working in Maryland as the Operations Supervisor Statewide Coordinator for Maryland AskUsNow! (our statewide virtual reference service) and an adjunct professor for the University of Maryland iSchool.
Rutgers University MLIS’ed me in 2006 and i’m a member of the ’07 class of the Maryland Library Leadership Institute and the ’08 class of the American Library Association Emerging Leaders. Other impressive librarian-y things too. Ask me sometime.
Customer service is kinda my thing. i have a low tolerance for bad service and am always trying to help people and orgs be better at it. i think it’s a no-brainer but really, it’s an achievable art form that includes relationships between people, an understanding of communication and an alignment of services, products, visions and technology.
I’m very involved in the Maryland library community including the Maryland Access to Justice Commission Public Education Committee (A2J PEC), the Maryland Library Leadership Institute (MLLI) Planning Committee, the Maryland Library Association (MLA) Conference Committee (2012) and the Maryland Library Associates Training Institute (LATI) Oversight Committee.
You can find more about me at linked in. You can also check out more about my talks and papers.
Hats i wear outside of my current two professional endeavors (librarian & educator) include artist, dancer, advice-giver, water lover, zen seeker, information finder, builder of stuff and all around renaissance woman.
about the strange librarian (the site)
I try to keep this blog geared toward my librarian-y interests (customer service, information access, and technology) but this is my blog and i can go off-topic if i want to. And I will.
