about the strange librarian (the person)
Hi there! I’m Julie, nice to meet you. I’m a Jersey girl living and working in Maryland as the Operations Supervisor Statewide Coordinator for Maryland AskUsNow! (our statewide virtual reference service) and an adjunct professor for the University of Maryland iSchool.
Rutgers University MLIS’ed me in 2006 and i’m a member of the ’07 class of the Maryland Library Leadership Institute and the ’08 class of the American Library Association Emerging Leaders. Other impressive librarian-y things too. Ask me sometime.
Customer service and magic are very important to me. I have a low tolerance for bad service and am always trying to help people and organizations be better at it. i think it’s a no-brainer and is really an achievable art form that includes relationships between people, an understanding of communication and an alignment of services, products, visions and technology. And magic is that extra bit of pixie dust that makes the world that much better. (file all this under customer experience design)
If you’d like to learn a little more, you can head on over to LinkedIn. You can also see my talks and papers.
Besides librarian, educator, and customer service queen, other hats i wear include artist, dancer, advice-giver, water lover, zen seeker, information finder, builder of stuff and all around renaissance woman.
about the strange librarian (the site)
I try to keep this blog geared toward my librarian-y interests (customer service, information access, and technology) but this is my blog and i can go off-topic if i want to. And I will.
update 12/12: this site is undergoing a rebranding in name and theme. stay tuned for the awesomeness!
