OCLC’s most recent report is out – How Libraries Stack Up:2010 which compares libraries with other services (like FedEx, movie theatres, the U.S. Dept of Labor, etc). My fav stats:
- 13,000 libraries offering career assistance vs 3,000 U.S. Dept of Labor One-stop Career Centers
- 2.1 million dvds borrowed from libraries vs 2.2 million from netflix and 1.1 million from redbox
- 12,000 public libraries offering free wi-fi vs 11,000 starbucks and 1,300 b&n’s
